SimpleMind Pro App Reviews

Worth every penny!

Yes, the free version is great… but the power of this tool is found in the paid version. It’s worth every penny. I use SimpleMind to study with. Breaking down chapters of text by using the hyperlink capacity in the paid version allows me to dig deeper into my understanding of the relationship of ideas. SimpleMind helps me map out those relationships. I also use it in combination with OmniFocus 2 Pro to break components of projects into pieces where I can see them. I’m very visual and SimpleMInd offers a perspective I haven’t found in other software. Lastly, the support is fantastic. Fast and reliable. Good people stand behind this app!

Intuitive and Useful

This app has so many uses. I am a visual person so I can take notes, organize my company charts, schedule my month, and mind map just about anything else I can think of. I also like how you can link mind maps to each other. I have both a Mac and iPad so being able to sync is very useful as well. I’ve tried a few mind mapping apps and this is by far my favorite.

As an educator, this is a breakthrough app!

I’ve sensed the potential value of mind mapping since the Apple II days, but all prior versions I’ve tried have been too complex, insufficiently flexible, or too expensive. SimpleMind is the first that gives me the power, the flexibility, and the simplicity of operation that I’ve been searching for. SimpleMind is a utility that supports the design of a non-linear approach to education and to any presentation. A map can be designed that enables any section or sub-section to be easily and quickly expanded or collapsed, on the fly. And a presenter/educator can instantly move between maps, enabling custom adaptation to the assembled group. That is the polar opposite of the linear way that most Powerpoint presentations proceed. Of course, in addition, SimpleMind can be used for all the usual purposes of mind mapping: thinking, planning, writing, and much more. My only disappointment is that the designers have chosen to use a non-conventional approach to saving and managing files, which can be confusing, even off-putting at first. Learning how they do it is explained in their quite comprehensive Help files (which are offered as FAQs). Disclosure: I have no relationship whatsoever with the developers or their company. I am simply a very happy consumer.

General review and comment about current version

I love smplemind and use it constantly for lots of things from writing academic papers to plannng trips. I’ve tried many other visual mind mapping programs and always return to simplement because of its flexibility. My only problem with it, and this is a big one, is that simplemend’s articulation with dropbox is clunky. Each simplemind map has to be manually stored in dropbox. It’s not possible to leave mindmaps in dropbox and have them automatically saved to dropbox. Simplemind has a time stamp which is good, but that creates lots of dated versions of the same map in dropbox with no easy way to move them around as past versions. One can export lots of mindmaps at one time, but the titles get lost. Thus, I rarely save simplemind maps and live in fear that I will lose a lot of work and thought should something happen to them. (So far it hasn’t.) My comment about the current version is that I like having the option of looking at an outline of the points I’m working with. However, I really miss the reorder option in the drop down commands. I use a lot of icons to orient myself, but those are stripped away in the outline version. I highly recommend simplemind, but if you are like me and have lots of mind maps, you may end up with the same frustration I have with the dropbox articulation.

Fantastic, Almost perfect.

If you are considering this application, try the free version first. If you are like me, you will quickly find mind mapping is a powerful tool useful in more situations that you think. Then, if you are still like me, you will grab the 3 other free applications which offer free trials. If you are like me, you will find them less intuitive, less visually appealing, and overall less useability. Then, you will find some key feature which you think would be neat if SimpleMind had. Then, and only then, return to this page. Simplemind probably has that feature. Check their website. It is there, and there are simple videos showing you how to use it. In my opinion, this applicatoin has already paid me back the purchase cost. Why am I not affording it a full 5-stars? I have a few issues with the interface, and actually think there are two many features. Sometimes navigation is difficult, but is a one-star penalty at MAX.

One of my favorite tools

I use this all the time. It is a great way to get things down quickly and colorfully. The ability to collapse a diagram made in freeform and then to expand it into a nicely laid out hierarchy is really wonderful (that doesn’t work on an iPad, but it works on the desktop) saves me enormous time. Very happy to have this app.

This is the first mind map application worth my money

I’ve tried quite a few mind mapping tools and have never stuck wtih any. This is the first app that does everything I could want including multiple layouts to work on presentation flows. Happy customer

So easy to use

Great app that will help organize ideas and promote creative thinking. Easy to use. Great purchase!

Life Saver

When tasked with completing a “mind map” for a graduate nursing course, I foolishly attempted to use PowerPoint to do so. After much frustration and many revisions, I came to the App Store to find an alternative program. I decided to go with SimpleMind after reading multiple positive reviews. It soon became apparent that I made the right choice. After learning the basics, I was off and running. They have a YouTube channel dedicated to this program, offering insightful tips. This program is almost addictive, as opposed to the painful PPT platform. Highly recommended!

Useful and simple

I tried several other mind mapping tools before settling on this one. Many of them require too much work to get a good layout, or are distractingly packed with features. Simplemind makes attractive mind maps with little effort, and thats what I want. Note that it is not a general diagramming tool. Its for making mind maps. I like that they focus on that. Suprisingly useful for thinking through problems, brainstorming with the team, and creating presentation graphics (its sometimes better to walk through the thinking behind a mind map instead of showing presentation slides).

Works well, DropBox handling is odd

The app works well once you are in a mind map. The file management is awkward a bit since it keeps files within the window pane, but you get used to it. DropBox usage is weird and feels underdeveloped - the developer should rethink this, but it does handle DropBox much better than Mindnode.

Gentle Learning Curve

I love this app. It can really increase your productivity if you are brainstorming or laying out a project. The best part for me was that I was able to begin using it effectively within minutes. I gave it five stars primarily for that reason. I quickly grasped how to use it and just as quickly integrated it into my work flow. The true cost of the app for me was $9.99 for the iPad version and the $29.00 for the desktop. You will probably find you want both. Still, it was well worth it in terms of the cost/benefit ratio which is something I consider when purchasing business tools. When productivity matters, and it does for most of us, I don’t want to waste a lot of time struggling to learn new software.

SimpleMind has changed my life!

I cannot believe how much better organized I am now! I always have a lot going on with my business, and with everything I have to do it’s hard to keep any kind of organized list. I was keeping all my to-do’s on a pad of paper in the back of my planner, but as the list grows, there’s always the chance I will miss something important. With SimpleMind, it’s all right here where I can see it clearly. I use it for all my projects, planning, and my general to-do list for my business. It’s especially helpful since you can organize it all by color. This thing has changed my LIFE!!

Great app!

I’ve used mindmapping for years, and was excited to find an app that met my needs! Easy to use, great options for mapping!

Fit for use

I am a big fan of OmniGraffle and use it heavily for all kinds of design efforts. Yet, for a quick brainstorming session - I use SimpleMind. It works great on the iPhone/iPad - making it a reasonable replacement for a napkin to capture that spur of the moment brilliant idea. The OPML export means that the ideas are not locked in SimpleMind.

Solid and fast

This is a solid and fast mindmapping tool. There are a number of features I would like to see added to it and the developer has taken a stand on syncronizing/sharing that doesn’t make it easy, but is also understandable. I’d like to see some collaboration capabilities, but for now this is a good tool.

Great App - Highly Recommend

This app is very useful - you can brainstorm on your computer or iPhone, and arrange the informaton later. If you are creative or need to capture a bunch of ideas and organize them later, I highly recommend this app.

Stellar App!

Absolutely the best mind mapping software in the app store.I use it on a daily basis; I have it across all my iOS devices and can easily sync from one to another. The latest feature of adding any size, full res images is a terrific update. Thank you for continuously working to better Simplemind!

Still the most versatile, but sync remains weak

For avid mind mappers I absolutely recommend you buy this app. It remains the most versatile, flexible mind mapping app on the AppStore. However, after several years of use, watching multiple versions arrive with more and more features and more and more cluttered toolbars I remain exasperated at the lack of a simple, straight forward, set-it-and-forget-it cross-platform sync. Though it has Dropbox integration it’s the weirdest and most archaic approach I’ve ever seen in which all sorts of deliberate management is required. I don’t want an explorer. I don’t want a bunch of options. I just want all my maps and folders across all my devices without having to manage them. Period. I’ve worked out a workaround for OSX between multiple Macs, but the lack of this feature precludes me from using SimpleMind regularly on my phone or tablet. Whether it’s Dropbox or iCloud…just figure it out!

Great Mind Mapping App

Great App….I use it everyday
