SimpleMind Pro App Reviews

Great for MBA

I’ve downloaded numerous mind mapping tools to be used during lectures for my MBA, and all of them felt too complicated or heavy. This app is simple to use, integrates with drop box, gives me lots of options and is visually attractive. I love this app!

Needs two improvements

I use this app all the time for school now. It’s great. I love how customizable it is, and all my maps are right there on the left sidebar. There are two things I wish they’d change though. I’d love keyboard shortcuts for adding new nodes. Pointing and clicking, especially when the nodes are a quick list, is such a pain. And their automatic layout arrangement does a poor job of actually arranging the nodes clearly. Those are the only things preventing this app from being perfect.

Very graceful and intuitive

I have tried 4 mind mapping programs to help project some very complex relationships. This is the best one. My thoughts are gracefully projected and the mapping helps me express intricate thoughts simply, with coherent flow. Even my husband or kids can look at a chart and understand it! Love it!

Simple, Cross Platform, Network synced

Seems like a very easy to use mind mapping app for Mac and IOS devices. I have only been using for about a week. So far so good. I also bought the IOS version and am syncing 4 devices via Dropbox. My only wish so far is easier to grab a bunch of items at once and move them around. There might already be a way to do it, but I just have not figured out yet. Great product. I look forward to continued development and improvements.

Supremely intuitive and easy to use

This mind mapping program is very easy to use and capable of everything I’ve needed so far. I bought the pro version in order to unlock more features and am very pleased with it. The best thing about it is that it is so easy to learn, just a few trips to the help page and you’ll know how to do nearly everything. Most of its functions are quite intuitive and I have been able to quickly capture my mind map and customize it to my exact needs. Kudos to the developers for a job well done, thanks for this near-perfect tool!

Nothing Special

It’s average. There are better ones out there in a similar price-range, but this will work for now. The automatic layouts are not very good. I have to keep rearranging everything. Having to use the mouse so much intereupts my workflow and hinders what is supposed to be a brainstorming activity. Printing doesn’t work so well either. The map doesn’t always center on the page and there doesn’t seem to be a way to break larger maps into multiple pages, it just scales everythhing onto 1. You can’t change the default style. I have to manually load a style sheet or edit the map style every time I start a new one. Spell check doesn’t work. It’s not bad, it’s just for $30 it should be better.

Scatter Mind

If you feel like a scatter brain, you probably are. Embrace it! Not everyone thinks in lists…step 1, 2, 3. I use SimpleMind to start very project, every sermon, every lesson, all my planning and vision work, etc. It’s easy to use…hotkeys, dropbox since to my iPad, lots of options. The only suggestion I have is to have a tag feature that I can then arrange by. It’s probably a big undertaking to add something like that, but it would be nice to have another layer of organization. I use the icon and color features now. It’s also a little pricy to get both the desktop and ipad versions, but I use it pretty much everyday. It’s been worth the purchase.

No training needed

I have always thought and organized in nodes and have tried other mind-mapping programs. Although others may be less expensive, this one wins out. It is totally intuitive — and even for someone in her 60s, does not have a learning curve. Simple Mind lets me think about the organization itself and not the software (which, let’s face it, is linear whether we want it to be or not). I use this for teaching students who cannot think in outlines, and for showing those who do how the week’s worth of lessons is paced. Love this APP.

Fantastic Mind Map Tool

I have been mind maping for the past 8 years. When I got my iPad I tried Simplemind and then I learned that it was much more powerful than the desk top program that I had been using. I can start or edit a map while laying in bed and finish it at my desk in the morning. I have been using SimpleMind for about 6 monthys, if you have an tablet and you like to create mind maps this is a must have application. Good Luck!

Helps Me Learn

I’m 41 years old and once again I am back in school. So I’m exploring new ways to learn. (Seems harder now that I’m older) This app really helps me learn the material. It helps me explore my thoughts and visually understand how different ideas relate to each other. I’m planning on teaching my grade school children to use it as well.

Best Investment!!

Being in graduate school, I found this app to be beneficial in mapping Pathophysiology. The app was simple to use and has so many features. The maps are professional looking, and my instructors love them too! Definitely recommend!!!

Great Potential

I believe that this application has excellent potential, but I do have a few things that I feel should be addressed that are particularly irritating to me with the Desktop version. 1. Can’t access file links once the application is closed with the App Store Desktop version. I use mind maps for many purposes. One of them is to organize configuration files for various applications with links to the files for making changes. With the App Store version you can make the link and edit the file, but once SimpleMind is closed and reopened you can no longer click the link to open the file. You’ll get a permission error. The Desktop version from the web-site does not have this problem. 2. I often exchange files with Freemind/Freeplane users. Freemind .mm imports are supported but links are not properly imported into SimpleMind. 3. No file folder import utility. This wouldn’t be a big deal for me if the Freemind file import actually included file links. With these issues addressed I’d probably change my rating to a 4 - 4 1/2 versus 3 stars.

Great App

I really like this app. It’s very useful.

My Go-To Mindmap App

SimpleMind is an elegantly crafted app that makes it easy to put my ideas into an eye-catching, visual format. Easy to choose themes, move/edit children/siblings, import/export to Dropbox, and sync. I thought there was a way to view a mindlmap as an outline, but don’t see that. Still, SimpleMind is a great tool for my creative needs.

Great piece of software

Why the need for an thumbnails of each mind map in the list of local mind maps on the left? I have to expand just to see which mind map is which. Please switch back to just using the file names. Its a needless change that takes up more screen space than necessary. Lives up to its name by being very simple to use. Very useful if you like mind mapping but don’t like having pieces of paper everywhere. You can export the maps in a number of different formats, which is also nice. So far I don’t have any issues with Simplemind, yet I haven’t been using it for that long. My only problem is that it is very expensive at $30. But as long as the developers keep making it better and better, it won’t be so bad.

Decent app, terrible file management

While improved in this version, the file management of this application is still awful. Yes, it can now access files in Dropbox as files, but only while I have network connectivity, since it’s using the Dropbox API to access those files, rather than the file system. This is needlessly complex, and means that I can’t access my data if I’m offline without jumping through extra hoops like import/export from the Dropbox folder on my hard drive. This is a DESKTOP application, and it should handle files like any other desktop application - as FILES in my filesystem. Again, I do like the features and functionality of the app, and it produces good-looking maps, but due to its lousy and obtuse file management, I’m looking elsewhere for my mind mapping. I’ll happily return to SimpleMind when its file management works in a normal fashion.

Simple and Effective

I am a Biological Science graduate student looking for a way to organize my thoughts. I tried the free version to get a feel for the application and was beyond impressed. The need to purchase the application was to take advantage of the interconnection between nodes for complex associations. The simplicity of the mindmapping application made the process of organizing my thoughts an enjoyable experience. I was having difficulties over the past few months, but as soon as I invested in this application the writing process for my thesis has been a pleasure.

Thanks From a Dental Student

Hi, I’m a first year dental student, and this is pretty great. In almost a year i haven’t incorrectly answered a test question the topic of which made it into my mind map. That being said, my mind maps can get pretty large and confusing. In the next update if you added a feature that let me custom edit the path the dotted lines take so they’re less jumbled up that would be great! Also a feature that let me add lines not connected to anything would be good. If, for instance, i’m trying to make a mind map about the nerve entrances and exits to and from the pterygopalatine fossa i’ll need some sort of tool to define the boundaries of said fossa. My workaround was to connect the foramen leading into and out of the fossa with lines and make that network out of a new central topic, but a more free system of line placement and manipulation would have saved some time. anyhow.. Thanks! I hope you all make tons of money.

Great for work around the house and especially the kids

I have used mind mapping for work related projects for years. I found it extremly helpful for my children in helping them visualize school projects. Attention all teachers- great tool for your students!!

Simplemind - lives up to its name

Simple, no nonsense Interface works well. I would love to have the ability to add multiple icons to an item. They havent added a ton of functionality over the years, but I’d rather have a working set of functionality in a stable product than a lot of hodge-podge and an unstable product. Kudos to the team.
